Virtual Tour of Israel
Opera singer Ruti Halvani and Dr
Efraim Lev of the Department of Israel Studies, Haifa University, take
you on a vivid virtual tour of Israel. Introducing audiences
to the countrys geography, history, and culture through a series
of graphic slides, accompanied by stimulating commentary from Dr Lev,
a respected academic authority on the country and its history, and by
Israeli music from Ms Halvani - truly bringing the sights and sounds
of Israel to life.
The combination of lecture and concert suits many different audiences. Entertaining and educational to those with little knowledge of Israel, it reaffirms the ties of those already attached to the country. Appropriate for synagogues, schools, conferences, private homes, youth groups, and fund raising the tours simple format is easily adaptable to all venues. The tour begins with a general explanation of the countrys location and history, as we see varied images of contemporary Israel: including the chalk cliffs of Rosh Hanikra, the beaches of Eilat, and Israels highest point Mount Hermon. We then travel south from the Golan Heights visiting waterfalls, kibbutzim, and archaeological sites. Approaching the Galilee and its valleys we see the beauty of Israeli nature including fields of poppies and roses, birds and bees. The sound of lilting Israeli songs breathes life into these images as the tour progresses to Jerusalem. Entering the legendary city we see the Knesset, and proceed through the Old City streets to the Western wall, visiting the capitals many famous sights, and catching a glimpse of its diverse people. The city and its inhabitants are celebrated in the songs that follow including Yerushaleim Shel Zahav and a medley of Hasidic melodies. Finally we venture into the Negev and the desert. We see the rare springs and desert animals spotted on jeep safari. The tour ends with images of the Bedouin and the land itself under the soft but strong music it has inspired. |
